Must. Dye. Hair. Fight. Temptation.

I’m in one of those moods this morning. That mood being life is boring, I need to go do something, make a change, make a purchase. I want to dye my hair BUT I don’t want to use chemicals. It defeats the purpose of being natural. For those that don’t know, I cut off all of my hair December of 2005 due to me frying my hair with dye. I used Dark n Lovely, that crap is so strong. It’s very bad on the hair, plus I was going shades lighter, so that didn’t really help. I’ve always wanted to be able to wear a fro, having a relaxer didn’t allow me to do so. So, I stopped the dying and relaxing. I’ve been lye and dye free for 17 months. The stores don’t sell any natural hair dyes, so I’d have to order henna. I want to dye my hair NOW. I use a lot of Garnier Fructis products and I love them. I really want to try their dye. My hair is thick and healthy since I’ve started over and I know that the dye won’t hurt it, especially if I’m just going for a browner look. I just don’t want to be a natural hypocrite or funk up my hair growth. Long hair, don’t care. -Lil Wayne

My hair before I started dying it. Sophomore year in high school.

The end result of me mass dying Senior year - Freshman year in college. It was really damaged, so I had to cut what didn’t fall out. It wasn’t too long after this picture that I decided to cut it all off. Shortly after, I ditched the fake contacts too.

I want to go natural so bad, but I don’t like my natural hair. If I was fullu black, then I definitely would. Your hair is so beautiful. If you do dye, post pics.. I would love to see. And I think I may have to try Garnier Fructis… everyone tells me its really good. Anyway, take care. )

I think you’d do alright being natural. Your hair couldn’t be that bad, especially if your hair is a mixture. It probably would just be less coiled, which is easier to manage. I consider myself, just “black” but I do share Irish and Cherokee blood. I just say why bother talking about it, if I don’t look it. Oh and thank you, you should def try Garnier!

I’ve never actually dyed my hair. But I severely have an urge to put hot pink streaks in it at the moment. Ah, I love Garnier. Smells delicious.

I wanted to do a few pink streaks, but I can’t because of work. I also thought it would look funny since I wear my hair in a fro.

I permenantly colored my natural hair, and it was the WORSE decision I have ever made. Before the color, my natural black hair was smooth, soft and had a healthy bounce. When I got my hair pressed before it was colored, the stylists’ loved my healthy hair. However, I needed a change and wanted a new look. I tell you there is nothing harder than moisturing dry colored hair. I lost a lot of hair because moisturizing it was a pain.

My hair has now grown back, and only a few colored tips remain. Yet, I still want some color to my hair. I need to find something safe for natural hair or else I’m not doing it. I love my healthy, smooth, and soft hair!

Your hair grew a lot! o_o I don’t know, my friends were talking about getting their hair braided and getting kinky twists. I just stood there and said “I will never understand how you black girls do it.” They laughed at me, but yeah. lmao. I use Garnier, but I’ve never tried their dye. I’ll have to look into that. I recently went from blonde highlights to a really dark blue-black. I’m tired of it already -_-

Lol. You know my team leader for The Body Shop told me about a moment she had at work. One of her co workers had kinky twists and the next day she had them taken out and her hair was of course shorter. My team leader didn’t understand and asked her “wasn’t your hair longer yesterday, what happened?”. The lady had to explain to her that it was hair extensions.

Your hair has changed a lot.. but I think its beautiful right now! I love thick “curly” hair like that. Its very in right now! You just have to learn how to work with it (thats what I hear on all the style shows haha). If you dye your hair again (I saw your post above about the hair dye) I’d wait atleast 1 month before trying so your hair doesnt get damaged. Also when dying my rule of thumb is dont go to light if your hair is normally dark. Otherwise it gets that “orange hew.” Not to mention the lighter you go the more damaging it is. Thats why I try not to get more than 3 shades lighter if I do lighten… and I absolutely NEVER bleach it. That’ll make it like straw.

There are some good deep condition treatments you can get out there. The kind you’d put on damp hair after showering.. then heat it up for 5 minutes w/ a hair dyer (medium heat).. wrap up in a plastic bag, then put a towel over top to hold the heat in.. leave it for 30 minutes… it will make your hair like silk. I did this for 3 months straight after my hair was completely screwed up by a bad perm. It was amazing the difference I saw in just 3 months treating it. Any hair salon can teach you what to get to do this at home. Its not expensive.

Hope that helps -) I love your hair dark though. Why go light -) your beautiful just the way you are!
