Homemade Liquid Carpet Cleaner
There were times I had to steam clean the carpet when carpet cleaner wasn’t handy. Carpet cleaner isn’t a cheap product to use when you have to use it so frequently. There were times I used a combo of hot water and Pine Sol. There were times when I used laundry detergent, baking soda, and water. I almost had it right. Soap attracts dirt, so it is a “no no” to use on carpet. It’s also hard to rinse out.
I recommend using a mixture of 30% white vinegar and 70% hot water or baking soda and hot water (playing with the baking soda to water ratio). It’s the simple things that get the job done. Isn’t this right on time since the “Go Green” revolution is in effect?

Vinegar sure does magic. For minute stains, my wife uses a dash or two of pure lemon extract.
I will surely try the vinegar/baking soda/hot water combo. Thanks for sharing.
30% vinegar / 70% water … I gotta try that. I have 4 kids and an endless amount of sippy cup drip stains. Do you blot it out like you would with other cleaners?
You can pour it directly on the carpet, let it sit to lift stains, and brush or pour directly into your steam cleaner.
Thankyou for this!
We need to clean our carpets this weekend, so you have posted just in the nick of time!
With two kids ages 2 and 1 and two clumsy parents this tip is right on time. Thanks
ooooooooooooh im gonna try this!
Thea’s last blog post..Eye Doctor Ugh
one thing i have found that breaks up difficult stains is peroxide poured directly on the stain.
let sit for 10 minuets and break up with water and a brush or scrubbie sponge works like magic!
I’ve used it on carpets both at my business and at home.
It even got blood out once when I stepped on a nail!
